DreamHack's StarCraft II tournament is already in full swing with both groups A and B offering a great deal of entertainment since early Thursday. The action was intense right from the start and the group favorites TeamLiquid's TaeJa and EG's Stephano did not disappoint the crowd in the first round as they picked up victories against elfi and TheStC, respectively. Albeit being off to a good start with victories in both the first and the second round, things were about to take a turn for the worse for the Frenchman, Stephano, who took a devastating 2-0 lose versus fraer.
Stephano left wondering about what to do after a shaky start to his Dreamhack campaign
Despite the turbulent start, Stephano still managed to get back on his feet but so did almost every single player in group A. At the end of day 1, the only player still not able to secure further advancement is elfi, who has lost all of his group-stage matches. With Stephano, fraer and TheStC all having a 2-2 win/lose score, the group's BYOC player, Snute is definitely the one to beat when the group enters its final stage tomorrow. If the Norwegian wants to qualify for the playoff stage, he has to pull out a handful of victories, and looking and the rest of the players in group A, it won't be an easy task for Snute, who has spent the entire day one, battling through the BYOC qualifier.
In group B, the first two playoff spots have already been taken as MaNa went absolutely huge in his first four games, only dropping three maps in total. Whilst the second playoff seat has been booked by Team Alternate's Socke, the third and final spot is still up in the air. Bly, SaSe and Feast, with the latter coming from the BYOC qualifier, are all looking to take the final two playoff spots in group B. Just like with Snute in group A and with all of the other players coming from the BYOC qualifier, Feast will take on the five other players in group B and the final outcome will very much determine who go through as second and third.
Bly is hoping to go through
Compared to the other three groups, group C is still very much open as none of the three playoffs spots have been taken yet. With DIMAGA and TargA out of the tournament after having finished fifth and six, respectively, the remaining four players will tomorrow find themselves in some very difficult positions as the outcome of three of the players' matches versus BYOC-qualified Bischu will affect the final standings in group C.
In the fourth and final group, TeamLiquid's HerO was on fire as he without any real troubles drove all the way into a comfortable group-stage lead with a 4-0 scoreline. Having only lost one single map during his remarkable group-stage campaign, HerO is thus far the only player from group D who has secured his playoff spot just yet. HerO and the rest of the group will tomorrow play Fnatic's NightEnD, who has made it all the way from the BYOC qualifier, and once the five matches are over, the last two playoff participants from group D are known.
