Despite very promising feedback from a handful of the Counter Strike: Global Offensive top teams, the ESPlay CS:GO by SteelSeries tournament was unable to attract the desired amount of teams who were willing to pay the registration fee. Instead of calling off the tournament, ESPlanet have decided to change the format of the said tournament. The ESPlay CS:GO by SteelSeries will now be free-to-enter, the prize purse will feature only hardware and the tournament will be played in a much more community-friendly format.
The first tournament will see a total of 64 teams battling it out in a single elimination bracket. The entire tournament will take place over the course of one day with all rounds up until the grand final played as best-of-one. The grand final will be determind through a best-of-three. In every round, the map(s) will be decided through a VETO. The team winning the knife round, which takes place in the beginning of each match, will start out the VETO. The tournament will be streamed by ESPTV.
Niels Møller, Development manger at ESPlanet.net issused the following statement about the format changes:
We have from today's date decided to change the format of the ESPlay CS:GO by SteelSeries. This decision is made due to the lack of signups/confirmations from the invited teams. Instead of having an entry-fee, we will now make the tournament free-to-play, but with lower prizes. This means that everyone can participate in this, and possibly we will host a lot more tournaments in the future.
1st - 5 x SteelSeries Siberia v2 CS:GO Edition
